  • Apply casing to the milky mushroom bags if spawn run is complete.
  • Spray water judiciously on floor, walls and on beds to maintain 85-90% RH, otherwise pinhead of milky mushroom will die.
  • In coastal regions, second crop of paddy straw mushroom can be initiated.

  • CROP ADVISORY April 2021

  • If button mushroom crop is still being produced in seasonal farms, maintain air temperature upto 18°C with 85-90% relative humidity.
  • Thoroughly treat the spent mushroom compost of button mushroom with 2% formaldehyde, close all the doors/vents, etc. for 2-3 days and dispose-off far away from the cropping room if the crop was infected with wet bubble/ yellow mould or other competitors.
  • Clean the floor of the cropping rooms and the racks with soap water before using for the next crop.
  • Make preparations for taking oyster mushroom crop following standard procedure – bags to be kept for spawn run at 25±2ºC.
  • Open the bags after 15-20 days of spawn run.  Maintain a temperature range of 22-28°C with 85-90% RH for fruiting.  It will depend upon the species to be grown.

  • CROP ADVISORY 12.05.2020

  • As the Govt. of India has given relaxation to carry out various agricultural activities in the country during lock down because of pandemic COVID-19, the mushroom growers are advised to keep the following points in their mind while taking up the mushroom cultivation:
  • As the growers might have procured the raw material, store it properly protecting from untimely rains.
  • Take up mushroom cultivation on a small scale / phased manner so that there is no problem in the sale of the produce in the local areas.
  • Workers must use masks and sanitizers while carrying out the various activities in the mushroom growing areas by maintaining the social distance as per the guidelines of the local administration to avoid the danger of spreading COVID-19.
  • Use the freshly prepared/procured mushroom spawn as the old spawn may not give good yield and there will be chances of loss due to failure of the crop.
  • Create awareness among the consumers about the nutritional and medicinal value of the mushroom as it is a complete food so that the growers do not face any problem in the sale of their produce.
  • During the break, treat empty growing mushroom rooms with disinfectant.
  • Dispose off SMS properly in the pits away from the farm for maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation in and around the farm.
  • Along with fresh mushroom, the growers can also sell the prepared products like pickle already prepared by them during lock down.
  • Use WhatsApp and other social networking sites, ICAR-MUSHROOM APP for getting information from ICAR-DMR, Solan experts on various aspects of mushroom cultivation. Further, the information on mushroom cultivation may also be retrieved by logging https://dmrsolan.icar.gov.in .

    CROP ADVISORY 04.05.2020

Keeping in view of the lockdown in the country because of pandemic COVID-19, the mushroom growers should keep the following crop advisory in mind:

  • Procure / preserve raw materials like wheat straw, mustard straw, paddy straw, chicken manure etc. to be used for mushroom cultivation in the coming months.
  • Prepare / procure the mushroom spawn as per the requirement so that the cultivation of different mushrooms is taken up at the earliest to bridge the gap because of lock down in the country due to COVID-19.
  • Preserve the dried mushroom in air tight containers at cool and dry place to avoid spoilage as it may be used for preparation of various value added products after converting into powder.
  • Prepare mushroom pickle if facing problem in marketing of button, oyster and milky mushroom as pickle can be preserved for 6 months without any spoilage. The growers can earn better returns from high value low volume value added products compared to fresh mushroom which is having very short shelf life.
  • The white button mushroom can also be stored in a steeping solution (15% salt + 0.5% citric acid + 0.075% sodium benzoate) after washing, sorting, cutting and blanching. It is to be stored in good quality big containers for its use in various purposes in future.
  • The mushroom growers may use WhatsApp and other social networking sites, ICAR-MUSHROOM App for getting information from ICAR-DMR, Solan experts on various aspects of mushroom cultivation. Further, the information on mushroom cultivation may also be retrieved by logging https://dmrsolan.icar.gov.in.
  • In the big mushroom units, the growers may use the sensors for controlling and monitoring various factors like temperature, humidity, air flow etc. from their residences.
